VICTORIA — The federal government’s decision to delay its ruling on a planned transition away from open-net salmon farms from British Columbia coastal waters is being welcomed by opponents on both sides of the issue.Representatives from B.C.’s salmon farming industry and Indigenous and conservation groups say they agree the move to delay gives federal Fisheries Minister Joyce Murray more time to make the right decision after much confusion.A Fisheries and Oceans Canada statement says requests from First Nations and others resulted in a plan to extend a consultation period until the end of this summer, with a transition decision coming at a later unannounced date.Murray announced last February the government would not renew licences for 15 open-net Atlantic salmon farms around B.C.’s Discovery Islands, while she was expected to complete consultations for 79 other open-net farms this month. Brian Kingzett, B.C. The setup requires using an iPhone to automatically take some assessments of your eyes and ears. I...

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Byron Buxton avoided the worst-case scenario when he was plunked on the ribs last Thursday by a Tanner Bibee fastball. But while he was fortunate to escape without any broken bones, Buxton hasn’t seen the field since then. And on Tuesday, after days of playing short-handed, the Twins made the decision to place the designated hitter on the injured list with a left rib contusion.Twins manager Rocco Baldelli had said on Sunday that he was hopeful that Buxton might be back on Tuesday. Instead, he’ll have a chance to heal for the next week. The move is retroactive to June 3, meaning Buxton would be eligible to return next Tuesday when the Twins play the Milwaukee Brewers. While Buxton was thankful to walk away from the incident without a fracture, the pain got to be so great the first night that he slept in a chair because he couldn’t lay on his side.“To know there’s nothing wrong and it’s just a bruise. For me, that’s a big positive,” Buxton said after hearing his X...
