The last top-of-the-line free agent the San Francisco Giants signed was Barry Bonds. He signed in 1992.In the 31 years since, the Giants have won three World Series, four pennants, and six division titles. And the second-best out-of-house free agent signed during that time was Johnny Cueto, in 2016.The history is clear: The Giants a not free-agent destination. Never have been; probably never will be.And yet for the past few offseasons, Giants fans — led on by the organization itself — have been adamant that the team should — and will — bring in the best free agents money can buy.And yet again, the Giants have failed. The Los Angeles Dodgers have spent more than a billion dollars to sign the two players atop the Giants’ free agency wish list this December. If that’s not a wake-up call to the Giants’ organization and the fan-base, I don’t know what is.The message is clear, too: The Giants’ are a second-tier franchise. It’s a harsh truth. By Mark Sherman | Associated PressWASHINGTON — The Supreme Court said Friday that it will not immediately take up a plea by special counsel Jack Smith to rule on whether former President Donald Trump can be prosecuted for his actions to overturn the 2020 election results. The issue will now be decided by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, which has signaled it will act quickly to decide the case. Special counsel Jack Smith had cautioned that even a rapid appellate decision might not get to the Supreme Court in time for review and final word before the court’s traditional summer break.Smith had pressed the Supreme Court to intervene over concerns that the legal fight over the issue could delay the start of Trump’s trial, now scheduled for March 4, beyond next year’s presidential election.U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan has put the case on hold while Trump pursues his claim in higher courts that he is immune from prosecution. San Jose State football hasn’t been this busy around the holidays in over 36 years. That was the last time the program played in bowl games in back-to-back seasons. These Spartans not only have matched that feat, but Saturday’s Hawaii Bowl is SJSU’s third bowl game in four years — a first in the history of the program. But Brent Brennan’s squad has more than history on its mind as it prepares to face Coastal Carolina. (The game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Pacific and will be broadcast on ESPN and 860 AM.)The Spartans have won six straight after a 1-5 start, a run that vaulted them into a three-way tie for first place in the Mountain West. But the Spartans were the odd-team out when a computer picked Boise State and UNLV to play in the conference championship.A trip to the islands isn’t a bad consolation prize for the Spartans, but they have their sights on making one more statement about how far this team has come this season.“We’re going into this game ...THE SLEEP SOLUTION RECOMMENDED BY DOCTORS

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- BART is targeting the end of December as the first day of service for its new fare gates, the transit agency announced in a thread on X, formerly Twitter. The gates, which are currently undergoing hundreds of tests, will be rolled out first at the West Oakland station.BART has yet to arrive at a final design for the gates and is currently still testing new designs, materials and features, the transit agency said. Fares, BART said, have been the agency's main source of revenue since it first launched in 1972. However, since 2020, when the COVID pandemic brought on a steep drop in ridership, BART has been reliant on state and federal funding to stay afloat. Robbers are following shoppers home, Alameda police say "As we welcome riders and seek more sustainable funding sources, fare gates remain critical for our operations funding," BART said. LOS ANGELES (AP) — Lightning crackled offshore as a blustery Pacific storm crossed the San Diego coast and pushed eastward through desert areas into Arizona early Friday after flooding communities northwest of Los Angeles. As millions scrambled to finish holiday shopping or headed out onto highways, a swath of Southern California remained under a flood watch due to possible periods of more rain, but forecasters said there was much less storminess and the holiday weekend would be dry. After slowly moving down the coast during the week, the brunt of the storm reached San Diego late Thursday. Just before midnight, a squall with gusts up to 55 mph (88.5 kph) dumped more than a half-inch (1.5 centimeters) of rain at Point Loma in 30 to 40 minutes, the National Weather Service said. Rain also began arriving in southwest Arizona. The weather service’s Flagstaff office said the center of the low-pressure system was expected to move from southwest of San Diego to near Yuma by evening.On...Lazio beats Empoli in Italy.
