Austin nonprofit performs 25 pediatric open-heart surgeries overseas

AUSTIN (KXAN) — More than two dozen children in Bolivia have a new lease on life following a medical mission trip performed by an Austin-based nonprofit.Since 2000, the nonprofit HeartGift has served more than 800 patients in over 35 countries, performing surgeries to help repair congenital heart defects. From late August through early September, a 30-person team flew to Bolivia for a 10-day medical mission, completing 25 open-heart surgeries on children ages three months to 13 years old. WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — A man was sentenced to 75 years in state prison in connection with a July 2021 murder in Williamson County.According to court documents, Branden Smith, 35, was convicted by a jury Aug. 17.Documents showed Smith pleaded not guilty to the murder charge prior to his trial.In addition to his sentence, documents also listed a $10,000 fine.Smith received a jail credit of 759 days toward his sentence, according to documents.Woman receives 23 years in prison in connection with 2022 murder in Williamson County

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — A woman was sentenced Sept. 7 to 23 years in state prison in connection with an April 2022 murder in Williamson County.According to court documents, Nila Louise Glimp pleaded guilty to the murder charge and was convicted by a court the same day she was sentenced.In addition to her sentence, Glimp must also pay $475 in court costs.Glimp received a jail credit of 377 days toward her sentence, according to documents.Court sentences man in 2021 Travis County murder

TRAVIS COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — A man was sentenced to 25 years in state prison in connection with a December 2021 murder in Travis County.According to court documents, Christopher Martinez was convicted by a court Sept. 7. (BCN) -- Police arrested a man Saturday night for allegedly stabbing another man in Redwood City, then leading officers on a foot pursuit after being pulled over. Video captures sinking boat burning in Vallejo; Coast Guard assists in response San Mateo County Sheriff's Office deputies responded at 9:44 p.m. to a call from the 400 block of 4th Avenue in unincorporated Redwood City, about an alleged assault involving a knife. Deputies say 35-year-old Catalino Ortiz-Perez tried stabbing another man multiple times. Deputies say the victim sustained only minor injuries during the attack. Ortiz-Perez then fled the scene in a vehicle. Before receiving the call, deputies stopped Ortiz-Perez's vehicle for an alleged traffic violation. Ortiz-Perez fled on foot, but was "was quickly apprehended," the sheriff's office said. Deputies also found Ortiz-Perez allegedly violated a restraining order unrelated to Saturday night's incident.
