How a Fodor's jab served as a wake-up call for Lake Tahoe Lake Tahoe tourism officials were surprised, and a bit miffed, when a respected international travel guide put the iconic alpine lake straddling the California-Nevada line on its list of places to stay away from this year because of the harmful ecological effects of overtourism. But with an influx of visitors and new full-time residents due to the COVID-19 pandemic already forcing local leaders to revisit the decades-old conversation about overcrowding, “Fodor's No List 2023” may have served as a wake-up call that some sort of change is necessary.“I can’t go to my own beaches anymore,” said Susan Daniels, 70, a lifelong resident of Kings Beach, California, whose parents met at a Tahoe-area ski resort in 1952. That includes her favorite, Sand Harbor, which lies just across the Nevada border and is known for its turquoise water and rock formations. “I cannot go to Sand Harbor, where I grew up, unless I get in line at 7 in the morning.”Since Fodor's declared last November that “Lake Tah...

If you’ve smoked or vaped CBD flowers before, you already have first-hand experience “decarbing” hemp!Basically, decarboxylation is a fancy term for heating cannabis flowers. The reason cannabis extractors and manufacturers use this word has to do with a significant chemical transformation. Interestingly, when we “decarb” weed, we change the atomic structure of significant cannabinoids like CBD. It’s essential for CBD customers to know how decarboxylation works to ensure they’re getting the most use out of their hemp products. What’s The Point Of Using Decarboxylation For CBD Hemp?As we’ve already established, decarboxylation involves using heat to transform the natural cannabinoids in hemp flowers. If you want to get more technical, decarboxylation removes a “carboxyl ring” from raw cannabinoids, which turns them into the standard cannabinoids we’re more familiar with. You may hear some hemp exper...

Beautiful Highway 13 vegetation is being cut back — for good reason: Roadshow Q: I travel on Highway 13, one of the prettiest little stretches of freeway in the Bay Area. It’s going through a lot of changes. What’s going on? It sure looks bare in some areas.Jeanne R.A: Bay Area residents here in 1991 remember the catastrophic firestorm that ravaged the Oakland Hills that October, killing 25 people and consuming 2.5 square miles of mostly residential neighborhoods. The agencies prioritized areas statewide for vegetation control to reduce the ability for fires to spread quickly. As part of this program, Caltrans is reducing roadside vegetation on state-owned land in locations along Highway 13 in Oakland.
This includes mowing, removing low-hanging limbs from trees that assist a fire to climb into the canopy, removing dead and dying trees and thinning dense tree stands. Trimming and removal...
