Israel strikes Gaza neighborhoods, as people scramble for safety in sealed-off territory JERUSALEM (AP) — Israeli warplanes hammered the Gaza Strip neighborhood by neighborhood on Tuesday, reducing buildings to rubble and sending people scrambling to find safety in the tiny, sealed-off territory as Israel vowed a retaliation for Hamas’ surprise weekend attack that would “reverberate … for generations.”Aid organizations pleaded for the creation of humanitarian corridors to get aid into Gaza, warning that hospitals overwhelmed with wounded were running out of supplies. Israel has stopped all access of food, fuel and medicines into Gaza, and the sole remaining access from Egypt shut down Tuesday after airstrikes hit near the border crossing. The war began after Hamas militants stormed into Israel on Saturday, bringing gunbattles to its streets for the first time in decades. At least 1,600 lives have already been claimed on both sides, and perhaps hundreds more. Hamas and other militant groups in Gaza hold more than 150 soldiers and civilians hostage, according to Isra...

Dolphins rookie De’Von Achane expected to miss multiple weeks with knee injury, per reports Dolphins rookie running back De’Von Achane reportedly will miss multiple weeks after suffering a knee injury in Miami’s win over the New York Giants.Coach Mike McDaniel said Monday that the team is still gathering information on the severity of Achane’s injury and didn’t have details on exactly when it occurred, or a timeline for return. According to NFL Network, Achane’s injury is not expected to sideline him for the rest of the season.“Something that we’re treating that we’ll get more information on,” McDaniel said. “But he was in and out of the game, standard rotation at the end of it like normal. He thought that he might have something, but he’s such a tough kid that it was kind of tough to read. So we need to evaluate more, and that’s what we’re doing today.”Achane, whom Miami selected in the third round of the 2023 draft, leads the league with 12.1 yards per carry and is second in total yards rushing with 460 despite having only 38 carries — 61 fe...

Historic start to the season for the Dolphins’ offense means little to coach Mike McDaniel MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — When asked his thoughts on the Miami Dolphins’ historic start to the season, coach Mike McDaniel raised his eyebrows and smirked.“Mission accomplished,” McDaniel said sarcastically. “We had the whole time, the whole offseason, that was our goal — was output after five games.”Miami has totaled 2,568 yards of offense — the most by any NFL team through five games. But McDaniel knows the Dolphins (4-1) haven’t reached their ceiling, and continued improvement is necessary if the team wants to make a deep playoff run.“All that means is that people are going to give you their best shot,” McDaniel said, “and you’d better continue to work and progress in your game if you’re going to be satisfied because you’re going to have a bullseye on your back.”During their 31-16 win over the undermanned New York Giants on Sunday, the Dolphins had some offensive miscues that could be a problem against a tougher opponent — like the Eagles, Chiefs or Bills, all of who...

It also forced the body’s Swedish vice president, Karl-Erik Nilsson, to resign as chairman of the Swedish Sports Confederation, due to his support for ending the ban. However, football’s ...

Keir Starmer slams ‘shallow men of Westminster’ in Labour conference pitch Labour leader Keir Starmer railed against Westminster’s “shallow” political class and promised a “decade of national renewal” in a party conference speech designed to pitch him as the U.K.’s next prime minister.Addressing delegates in Liverpool, Starmer — whose party has a commanding lead in the polls ahead of an expected general election next year — shrugged off an angry protest that preceded his speech, and tried to tap into voters’ anxieties about the cost of living, the state of public services, and scarce housing supply in the U.K.Positioning himself as the man to fix a country “ruined” by 13 years of Conservative rule, Starmer set out plans to boost housebuilding, hand more economic power to local leaders, increase neighborhood policing, and double down on green investment.Voters, said Starmer, are “looking to us because they want our wounds to heal — and we are the healers.”“People are looking to us ...
