Brentwood’s newest public school – the first in more than a decade – will be named after a longtime retired educator who is still helping the community: Isaac “Ike” Montañez.The elementary school, which is under construction on Smith Road near Lone Tree Way, broke ground in the spring and is scheduled to initially open with 500 students for the 2024-25 school year. Paid for with Measure B bonds, the $78 million school will be Brentwood Union School District’s 13th one, joining its existing eight elementary, three middle schools and one virtual academy.School trustees unanimously approved the school’s naming last week in honor of the 87-year-old Montañez, who worked for the district for some 30 years and for Mt. Amy Sedaris is known as an outrageously hilarious actor, comedian, and writer, best known for her wacky characters, unique voice and over-the-top delivery. While she grew a true cult following with her role as the jilted Jerri Blake in the Comedy Central series “Strangers with Candy,” she was a performer long before she ever had a platform.Raised in North Carolina among a band of siblings, the self-titled “Talent Family,” Sedaris had a natural funny bone from the get-go. From pranking her family members, to performing plays in the living room and making fake announcements over the loudspeaker at the local Winn-Dixie, she was never afraid to let her talent shine. She may not have always had an audience, but she never failed to find the spotlight. After moving to Chicago to join the ranks of the iconic comedy troupe Second City, Sedaris  would make a name for herself with quirky TV characters like Jerri Blake, Princess Carolyn in “BoJack Horseman,” and Mimi Kanassis in “Unb...

EAGAN, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings signed former Denver guard Dalton Risner on Tuesday to try to shore up what has been a problematic position for several seasons.Risner visited the Vikings for a workout during training camp. Drafted in the second round out of Kansas State in 2019, Risner started 62 games in four years for the Broncos. He became a free agent and had been unsigned. To make room on the active roster, the Vikings placed tackle Oli Udoh on injured reserve with a torn quadriceps tendon he suffered in the team’s most recent game at Philadelphia. The Vikings ( 0-2 ) are last in the NFL in rushing yards and third worst in the league with an average of 2.65 yards per attempt. Center Garrett Bradbury was sidelined by a back injury in the season opener. Right guard Ed Ingram has struggled often since winning the job as a rookie last season. “I do have a lot of confidence in our guys, but clearly we’ve got to do something a little bit differently and really focus on...
