North Carolina governor signs law clearing up several aspects of impending abortion law RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Last-minute revisions to North Carolina’s new abortion restrictions that take effect this weekend were signed into law on Thursday by Gov. Roy Cooper.The Democratic governor’s decision to act quickly on changes from the Republican-controlled legislature should minimize the immediate results from a pending legal challenge. Still, a federal judge might temporarily block parts of the law that before it goes into effect Saturday.A lawsuit by a physician and Planned Parenthood South Atlantic claims that sections in the restrictions were so vague and confusing that doctors feared unintentionally breaking the law, affecting their ability to care for women seeking abortions. Enactment of the clean-up language appears to make moot arguments about several provisions cited in the lawsuit. Man wanted on Jan. 6 charges arrested in former President Barack Obama’s Washington neighborhood WASHINGTON (AP) — A man wanted for crimes related to the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at the U.S. Capitol was arrested Thursday in the Washington neighborhood where former President Barack Obama lives, law enforcement officials said. Taylor Taranto, 37, was seen by law enforcement a few blocks from the former president’s home, and he fled even though he was chased by U.S. Secret Service agents. He has an open warrant on charges related to the insurrection, two law enforcement officials said. The officials were not authorized to speak publicly about an ongoing case and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity. They said Taranto also made social media threats against a public figure. Metropolitan Police arrested him on charges of being a fugitive from justice. The explosives team swept Taranto’s vehicle. Denver Fire dive team searches submerged car DENVER (KDVR) -- The Denver Fire Department conducted a search of a vehicle that was submerged in flood water just west of Interstate 25. DFD said the car was submerged near West 38th Avenue and Fox Street. Dive crews got in the high-standing water and searched the vehicle and confirmed there was no one trapped inside. The department is warning drivers not to take the chance of driving through standing water.

Police seek public’s help in search for missing woman from Stoughton Police asked for the public’s help Thursday as they continued a search for a 31-year-old woman reported missing earlier this week.Police said Emma Tetewsky was last seen by her family on Sunday evening.
