Jared Polis on Thursday called the state legislature back into session late next week to come up with a replacement plan. The special session will begin at 9 a.m. on Nov. 17, going into next weekend, Polis announced during a morning news conference at the Governor’s Residence in Denver.“If we do nothing, Colorado homeowners are facing a record property tax increase,” he said. “The crisis is not urban or rural, Denver or the state. It is universal across our state — truly a Colorado crisis.”In Tuesday’s election, nearly 60% of voters rejected Proposition HH, Polis and Democratic leaders’ proposal to dial back property tax increases expected early next year, at least partially, while also providing financial assistance to local governments, along with significantly more money for education. On Thursday morning, Los Angeles news radio station KNX aired a call from a ten-year-old girl who wanted to know the answer to a question that comes up from time to time: what is a SigAlert?L.A. drivers hear about SigAlerts almost every day. They are issued after car accidents, fires, water main breaks, landslides, and other disruptions. So what are they? And where did the term come from?A SigAlert is a traffic notification system used by the California Highway Patrol to alert drivers about incidents that disrupt traffic flow, typically on interstates or major roads.Whenever a freeway is closed due to a crash - that's a SigAlert. While many Californians might assume "Sig" is short for “Signal,” it's not. We know and love actress Lisa Ann Walter on the big and small screen, including the TV hit "Abbott Elementary."However, over the past few months, she's been hard at work in the room where it all happens. Britain’s Farrow & Ball has a beautiful new book out — “How to Redecorate” — that dives into the fascinating world of color and paint, a subject few could make as interesting as Joa Studholme, color curator for the venerable English maker of high-end paints and wallpaper. Studholme takes us on an exquisitely illustrated (340 photos and drawings) tour that includes such key considerations as light, architecture and style, then squires us around color families and ends with a comprehensive look at finishes — from Dead Flat to Full Gloss.F&B is known for its small collection of artisan colors. “We believe that by condensing the options to only 132 carefully curated colors that selection is easier,” Studholme told me last week on a Zoom call from across the pond. (By comparison, Sherwin-Williams offers more than 1,700 paint colors.) Since Studholme came on board, every color the company has added was created at her kitchen table, where she sits with...Ex-Baltimore prosecutor Mosby convicted of perjury

By TIM REYNOLDS AP Basketball WriterFormer Warriors forward Andre Iguodala is taking over as the acting executive director of the National Basketball Players Association after the resignation of Tamika Tremaglio, the union announced Thursday.Tremaglio, the union said, is “stepping down from the position to pursue new opportunities.” The NBPA’s executive committee has approved Iguodala’s appointment, the union said.Tremaglio was not even two full years into her four-year term as executive director. It was not immediately clear if Iguodala, the four-time NBA champion with Golden State who announced his retirement last month and was a longtime union officer, would be interested in the job in a permanent capacity. The change atop the union seemed to come as a surprise, given that Tremaglio revealed on Tuesday that she had just met with the Indiana Pacers — the second team she visited with this season, following time with the Atlanta Hawks in October — and was planning to be back in India...49ers’ D-coordinator Steve Wilks downplays his move to the sideline

SANTA CLARA — The day after coach Kyle Shanahan announced his defensive coordinator would move from the coaches box to the sideline, Steve Wilks knew the questions were coming.“Just being candid, I think we’re making a bigger deal about this than it needs to be,” Wilks said Thursday before practice. “I just want to be able to communicate with the guys a little more. Certain things I’m seeing, I want to be able to talk to them directly.”Wilks is correct in that the switch is being more closely scrutinized from the outside than from inside the building.“I don’t really pay it no mind,” defensive tackle Javon Hargrave said.Dre Greenlaw cut to the heart of the matter and a 5-3 record after a 5-0 start.“If we were 8-0 it probably wouldn’t be a big deal,” Greenlaw said. “Me, I like having that coach on the sideline.
