CHICAGO — Think of the Chicago Fire Department and two things most likely come to mind: Fighting fires and responding to medical emergencies. But increasingly, it’s another type of call that’s dominating the department’s day. Bill to force IDOT to make a decision on South Suburban Airport project moves forward Take the Smith family on the city’s South Side. Three days a week, the family calls 911.Thankfully, not for a medical emergency but so Chicago firefighters can carry Renee Smith out of her house for a dialysis appointment. She has battled health problems for years and after a battle with COVID-19 is no longer able to walk.“Glad to have the fire department,” Renee’s sister tells WGN Investigates. “I’m just a little woman so I can’t get her down [the stairs] by myself.”The family is not alone. Fight over police misconduct records far from finished Last year, the department responded to 41,539 “civilian assist” calls. No, the Vikings did not get their heir apparent to franchise quarterback Kirk Cousins. Not yet at least. That said, the Vikings landed a player on Thursday night that can impact winning in the present, selecting USC receiver Jordan Addison with the No. 23 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. He is someone the Vikings can pair with superstar receiver Justin Jefferson for the foreseeable future. The first round couldn’t have worked out much better for the Vikings considering where they were picking. After trading up last month, the Carolina Panthers finally got their guy, drafting Alabama quarterback Bryce Young with the No. 1 pick. Then, the Houston Texans, despite mulling their options with the No. 2 pick, stayed up and took Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud. The assumption was that Young and Stroud would be off the board long before the Vikings were on the clock. That’s something general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and head coach Kevin O’Connell likely expected. There were some ...Woman arrested after Troy hit-and-run

Coach John Harbaugh said last month that the Ravens would draft a wide receiver. On Thursday night, they followed through. With the 22nd overall pick, Baltimore selected Boston College wide receiver Zay Flowers.Though the Ravens had already bolstered their receiving corps this offseason with the free agent additions of two-time All-Pro Odell Beckham Jr. and veteran Nelson Agholor, it’s clear that general manager Eric DeCosta felt the need to continue to strengthen one of the weakest positions on the roster. It also gives a new weapon to star quarterback Lamar Jackson, who earlier Thursday agreed to a five-year deal worth a reported $260 million, making him the highest-paid player in the NFL in terms of annual average salary. What Flowers lacks in size — he’s 5 feet 9 and 182 pounds — he more than makes up for in elusiveness, speed and precision route running.
