CHICAGO - It's been a whirlwind for Willson Contreras lately, perhaps more than anyone else, as the St. Louis Cardinals seek answers to an early-season prolonged stretch of losing. Monday, in more ways than one, proved to be a stretch in the right direction. Contreras sparked the Cardinals to a series opening win against his former team, the rival Chicago Cubs, on Monday behind two hits and two RBIs, which included a late tiebreaking double. “It was a fun game,” Contreras told media members after the game. “It was fun to play against my ex-teammates and my ex-team.” Prosecutors rethink working in St. Louis while trial crises remain The three-time All Star returned to a mix of cheers and boos from the Wrigley Field faithful. The Cubs paid tribute to Contreras with a pregame highlight video, and the grinning catcher popped out of the dugout and waved his hat to acknowledge a crowd of 30,000-plus. Like old times, Contreras delivered a big night with his bat at the Friendly Confines. ...Casa Bonita has the green light to open from city, county and state, but when will it?

Casa Bonita has yet to announce an official reopening date beyond sometime in May, but it appears red tape is not holding owners Matt Stone and Trey Parker of “South Park” fame back. The restaurant, which has undergone a significant, years-long renovation, has passed all its inspections and received all necessary permits from city, county and state authorities to be able to open.Through Colorado Open Records Act requests, The Denver Post confirmed Casa Bonita passed all City of Lakewood inspections related to electrical, plumbing and HVAC — as well as updates to the diving pool — as of March 23. Contractors maintain an active permit to re-roof the building, according to city records, but “re-roofing can be done even when occupied,” said Lakewood Permit Counter Supervisor Kristi Ferree. Both the city and the state issued the restaurant liquor licenses in January.Mindi Ramig, food program manager at Jefferson County Public Health, said the restaurant and enterta...Nathaniel Hackett on taking Jets’ OC job: “It just looked like a great staff, a great group of men”

After being fired last December, Nathaniel Hackett could have sat at home or on a sunny beach drinking Mai Tais and collecting checks from the Broncos. But Hackett was motivated to return to coaching as the Jets’ offensive coordinator a month later for several reasons.“Being with a guy like Robert [Saleh], somebody that I’ve known and other guys that I’ve known on this staff that I knew, [Aaron] Whitecotton, Ron Middleton, to be able to have [Zach] Azzanni join us, Todd Downing, so many different guys — it just looked like a great staff, a great group of men.“But Robert, he’s the guy that I respected for so long after working with him and now what he has done in his career. I have some great memories from when my dad [Paul Hackett] was here. Back then, with Chad Pennington, Curtis Martin, Kevin Mawae and that crew winning the division, those were some great times.“I think all those things added up and I think it made it right for me and...A “steak” dinner with vegetarians in mind

By David Tanis, The New York TimesAfter the long, gray winter, outside is where I want to be more and more. And somehow all I want to eat is vegetables, perhaps as a kind of tonic. If your climate allows, this light, sunny menu is really more of a daylight meal, relaxed and best eaten outdoors (though, this year, it’s anyone’s guess what surprising things the weather might do).Salad, made with ingredients of the season, is a necessity for me all year round. What I want right now is a salad of just-picked tender greens with colorful radishes, sweet raw young turnips, roasted beets, asparagus tips, shavings of fennel and fresh herbs. Fresh, fresher, freshissimo. Some salads are tossed, while others, like this one, are composed. The idea for this delicate, appealing first course is to have an assortment of complementary greens, herbs and vegetables, artfully arranged on a platter or individual plates, dribbled with a tangy vinaigrette. Feel free to improvise: A few spinach leaves, a hand...I-225 reopens in Aurora after six-vehicle rollover crash forces closure near I-70

Hundreds of Angelenos will soon have to find a new place to live after a Sawtelle complex announced the eviction of all residents due to a costly renovation project.Barrington Plaza, located at 11740 Wilshire Blvd., suffered dramatic and destructive fires in 2013 and 2020, partly because it does not have fire sprinklers. One person died and 13 people were hurt in the second blaze.Because it was built in the early 1960s, it is exempt from laws requiring fire sprinklers, though as part of approving repairs after the 2020 fire, city officials demanded safety upgrades, according to the Los Angeles Times.
