Published Mon, 24 Feb 2025 19:49:57 GMT

Coloradans’ fear of road rage and reckless driving has grown from an irrational one based on a few tragic stories to a legitimate concern that they or someone they love will die on the streets of Denver, the roads in Colorado Springs, or on the side of a highway. On a recent Friday evening in LoDo, a man was shot and killed during what police suspect was a road rage incident. The shooter remained on scene according to police. The incident — in broad daylight on the corner of Wazee and Park Avenue West just north of Coors Field — barely registered with a community inundated with news about anger, violence and death on our roads. One must just look at recent Denver Post headlines:“Denver DA drops one of two murder charges in I-25 road-rage killings,” Oct. 18.“2 shot in Aurora during Sunday morning road rage incident,” Oct. 8“Man pleads guilty in fatal Interstate 70 road rage shooting,” Sept. 26“One injured suspect sought in Jef...

Jackie Amézquita works along a continuum of performance, craft, communal action, conceptual frameworks, and profound storytelling that reaches into her own life and out toward a broader diasporic embrace. First gaining wide attention with her remarkable 2018 work Huellas que Germinan (Footprints That Sprout), in which she walked the distance from the border at Tijuana to her home in Los Angeles as a gesture of investigative solidarity with the immigrants who’ve done the same, Amézquita’s practice has expanded to include further objects and embodied actions around soil, masa (corn), limestone, salt and copper—the elements of the earth. Her contribution to the Hammer Museum’s Made in L.A. 2023: Acts of Living biennial brings together her awareness of and engagement with the ground itself and its powers of memory and narrative. The 9 x 13-foot grid El suelo que nos alimenta (The soil that feeds us), 2023, arranges 144 square slabs—each a richly textured and variegated soil s...

Published Mon, 24 Feb 2025 19:49:57 GMT

DEAR TRAVEL TROUBLESHOOTER: I recently rented a home in Jacksonville, Florida, for three nights through Airbnb. The pictures posted by the host did not match the property. The home was damaged and dirty. The sofa in the living room was peeling and dilapidated. One of the exterior doors had mold growing on it and would not close all the way. And the toilets were filthy.Christopher Elliott, the Travel Troubleshooter I filed a complaint with Airbnb, and a representative told me that they contacted the host about a refund. Can you help?— Tyson Love, Jacksonville, FloridaANSWER: No qu...

"I also found out that DPW workers are wearing bulletproof vests to work and that many workers filed grievances through their union so they no longer had to work in the Mission because they feared for their safety."  Coastal flood advisory issued for parts of Bay Area The city wants to move the permitted vendors to two designated l...
