Twitter pulls check mark from main New York Times account

Twitter has removed the verification check mark on the main account of The New York Times, one of CEO Elon Musk’s most despised news organizations. The removal comes as many of Twitter’s high-profile users are bracing for the loss of the blue check marks that helped verify their identity and distinguish them from imposters on the social media platform.Musk, who owns Twitter, set a deadline of Saturday for verified users to buy a premium Twitter subscription or lose the checks on their profiles. Later he posted disparaging remarks about the newspaper, which has aggressively reported on Twitter and on flaws with partially automated driving systems at Tesla, the electric car company, which he also runs. Other Times accounts such as its business news and opinion pages still had either blue or g...

Unanswered is the question of whether the shifting landscape in college sports was the reason for all bracket madness or simply background noise for an event that is always hard to handicap.Either way, things are changing and coaches are trying to adjust on the fly.“These might be some of the greatest challenges we’re facing with the portal and NIL and just lack of direction and rules and regulations,” said Mark Few of Gonzaga, a perennial powerhouse that has reached the Sweet 16 in eight st...

Which names are most commonly used in song titles?

Published Tue, 25 Feb 2025 03:29:12 GMT

(NEXSTAR) – Go, Johnny, go!A new study of popular music trends has determined “John” to be the most common name used in song titles, followed by Mary, Maria, Johnny and David. The study, commissioned by an online music-industry resource called Music Industry How To, pulled its data from a total of 2,262,292 different song titles included in roughly 1 million Spotify playlists. Analysts then determined the frequency of the names that most commonly appeared, excluding any track titles that didn’t use a potential ”name” as a proper noun. (For instance, Madonna’s “Ray of Light” would have been excluded, as it uses “ray” in reference to a beam of light rather than a person’s name.) What’s the most popular last name in Colorado? The study’s findings, however, were based solely on playlists created in Spotify, meaning the song titles analyzed — and therefore the most popular names in those titles — may be skewed toward Spotify users’ tastes. As of late 2022, more than half (51%) of Spotify...
