OAKLAND — A vacant East Oakland warehouse damaged in a fire less than a month ago was left gutted Wednesday morning by a two-alarm blaze, officials said.Squatters are suspected to have played roles in both fires, officials said.Wednesday’s fire at the building at the intersection of 29th Avenue and East 12th Street erupted about 5:25 a.m.When the first of some 40 firefighters arrived at the site flames were coming through the roof and a wall collapsed.Firefighters had to force entry through a fence around the building to get better access, officials said.Because of the instability of the building, firefighters did not go inside the structure to battle the blaze, but used ground and aerial hose lines to put water on it, Fire Battalion Chief James Bowron said.Firefighters were also hampered by downed power lines, officials said. The fire was declared under control at 6:35 a.m. No firefighters were injured.Related ArticlesCrashes and Disasters | Vegetation fire da...Disneyland rolls out new pumpkin-shaped Cinderella carriage for $180,000 fairy tale weddings

(BCN) -- Walking and biking in two Sunnyvale neighbors is about to become safer for children going to school. The Sunnyvale City Council is slated to award a $3.9 million contract for pedestrian improvements in the Sunnyvale Neighbors of Arbor community, which includes La Linda and the San Miguel neighborhood. Residents in these north Sunnyvale neighborhoods have been raising traffic safety concerns for years. The area borders Highway 101, with long, straight roads that safety advocates say encourage speeding, and result in crashes into homes, property damage, injuries and even one death. If the city council approves the contract, FBD Vanguard Construction will install a variety of safety features that include high visibility crosswalks and speed indicator signs. The only Palestinian American member of Congress is under attack from her Democratic colleagues after she issued a statement that condemned a “heartbreaking cycle of violence” in Israel and Palestine and called for an end to the Israeli occupation. Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., released the statement on Sunday, the day after Hamas bulldozed through the barbed-wire fence that separates Gaza from Israeli territory and massacred civilians, including attendees at a music festival. Israel responded by bombing Gazan villages and a refugee camp, and on Monday ordered a complete siege of the Gaza Strip. “I grieve the Palestinian and Israeli lives lost yesterday, today, and every day,” Tlaib said in her statement, going on to say that the end of Israel’s occupation of Palestine would create a just future for everyone.“The failure to recognize the violent reality of living under siege, occupation, and apartheid makes no one safer,” she said. “We cannot ignore the humanity in each oth...Hal Steinbrenner says Yankees may make personnel changes but he’s not sure yet
