Monday night’s $785M Powerball jackpot is 9th largest lottery prize. Odds of winning are miserable

Monday night’s $785M Powerball jackpot is 9th largest lottery prize. Odds of winning are miserable DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The ninth-largest lottery jackpot will be on the line Monday night when numbers are drawn for a $785 million Powerball prize. The payout has grown so large because it has been building for more than two months, since a player in California matched all six numbers on July 19 and won $1.08 billion. That’s 28 consecutive drawings without a big winner. That winless streak is due to the miserable odds of winning the Powerball jackpot, at 1 in 292.2 million. It’s those long, long odds that result in such large top prizes, as they cause the jackpot to roll over week after week.Although the game highlights the $785 million prize, that is for a winner who is paid through an annuity over 30 years. Winners almost always choose the cash payout option, which for Monday night’s drawing would be $367 million. The giant jackpot would also be subject to federal taxes, and some states also tax lottery winnings.Powerball is played in 45 states, as well as W...

Armenian propaganda claims of genocide in Karabakh are not credible

Published Fri, 15 Nov 2024 07:43:53 GMT

Armenian propaganda claims of genocide in Karabakh are not credible According to CNN & the NY Times, so far, 95% of all deaths in Karabakh were military. No country engaging militants in an urban area have a lower military-to-civilian-death ratio. Of course each civilian life is sacred, but if 10 accidental civilian deaths in Karabakh is considered a “genocide” then technically, there are 6 genocides taking place in Chicago over any given weekend. You can't just throw around “genocide” every time you're displeased with the outcome of a military operation.” That was written by senior White House correspondent Jake Turx. His real name is Abraham Jacob Terkeltaub, he is a brilliant Jewish journalist working for different outlets, including the conservative publication Newsmax, writes James Wilson. Why the emphasis on his heritage? Because a week ago, 120 European rabbis wrote a letter to the Israeli President asking him to exert his influence on the Armenian government to stop using the expressions related to the horrors of the Holocaust to describe...

Britta Raci Won’t Give Up The Postal ServiceGive Up (Sub-Pop)Britta Raci Won’t Give Up: Indie pop artist Britta Raci told us about her love for a Postal Service gem.(Sub-Pop)Britta Raci: People are usually surprised to find out that my all time favorite album was released in 2003 by a group who no longer exists, and only ever put out one album. If I could only listen to one album for the rest of my life, it would be Give Up by The Postal Service due to the album’s lyrical brilliance paired with its sweet melodies. This album holds meaning to me because my dad and I listened to it frequently together, but it began to hold new meaning to me as I became older. With most of my own songs pertaining to heartbreak and unsuccessful relationships, I can easily say Give Up has some of the most poetic ways of talking about failed love. I don’t think a more beautiful line can be written about an ending relationship than “would someone please call a surgeon who can crack my ribs and repair this broken heart that you’r...

Staying Safe With Your CBD Sweets — Crucial Safety Tips For CBD Edibles

Staying Safe With Your CBD Sweets — Crucial Safety Tips For CBD Edibles Although the US government signed off on hemp in 2018, not every federal agency is OK with CBD products. Interestingly, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) still doesn’t regulate the recreational CBD sector. The lack of FDA oversight has led to many controversies in the new CBD industry, especially regarding CBD edibles.Despite their widespread popularity, CBD-infused gummies are some of the most controversial hemp products from the FDA’s perspective. In fact, some cities and states have issued raids or bans on CBD edibles. Unlike dietary supplements, edible products typically need to meet higher standards for purity. Since the FDA hasn’t cleared CBD as a food additive, many territories are unwilling to allow CBD gummies in their backyard. These tighter restrictions may make it more challenging to obtain CBD gummies, but please remember the 2018 US Farm Bill legalized all hemp-derived goods with ≤ 0.3 percent delta-9 THC. So, technically, it’s still federally legal to buy CB...

The story of bird plumage is subtle and complex

The story of bird plumage is subtle and complex One obvious reason why people enjoy the existence of birds so much is their bright and varied colors. Humans — and most mammals — seem boring in comparison. But why are birds the colors that they are? The competing evolutionary directives toward camouflage and mate attraction are two of the clearest forces, although the complete story of avian plumage patterns is considerably more subtle and complex.Brown creepers are among our greatest masters of camouflage. Photo by Mick ThompsonCamouflage first. Many of our local birds are not dressed in shockingly bright colors — for good reason. Bright reds, yellows and multi-colored patterns make a bird more visible to predators, especially when considered against the relatively subdued color palette of dry California. Many birds are dominated by browns and grays and streaky in-betweens: think of California towhees, titmice, wrens, sparrows and many more of our common birds. Some of the most colorful birds we do have — orioles and tanagers...
