DHAKA, Bangladesh (AP) — Bangladesh is struggling with a record outbreak of dengue fever, with experts saying a lack of a coordinated response is causing more deaths from the mosquito-transmitted disease. The World Health Organization recently warned that diseases such as dengue, Zika, chikungunya and yellow fever caused by mosquito-borne viruses are spreading faster and further because of climate change. So far this year, 778 people in Bangladesh have died and 157,172 have been infected, according to the government’s Directorate General Health Services. The U.N. children’s agency says the actual numbers are higher because many cases are not reported. The previous highest number of deaths was in 2022, when 281 people are reported to have died during the entire year.Dengue is common in tropical areas and causes high fevers, headaches, nausea, vomiting, muscle pain and, in the most serious cases, internal bleeding that leads to death.Mohammed Niatuzzaman, director of the state-run Mugda ...Iowa man is found guilty in death of 10-year-old girl whose disappearance prompted a huge search

Luis Rubiales, the former president of Spain’s football federation, cannot go within 200 meters of footballer Jenni Hermoso, the player he controversially kissed after Spain’s World Cup victory last month, a judge ruled on Friday. During the World Cup celebrations in Australia last month, Rubiales gave Hermoso a non-consensual kiss on the lips, igniting widespread criticism about sexism in the industry and later leading to his resignation.“We continue to maintain that it was a non-consensual kiss,” Hermoso’s lawyer Carla Vall said Friday, according to local news reports after the judge’s decision. “The whole country, and the whole world, has been able to observe that there was no consent whatsoever, which is what we will also demonstrate in court,” the lawyer added. Vall added the “humiliating act” had “tarnished a sporting milestone,” overshadowing the victory of the Spanish Women’s football team.Rubiales, who ...Ukraine liberates Andriivka

But now it is confirmed that our troops captured Andriivka yesterday,” Ukraine’s Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar said in a statement Friday morning. Andriivka is about 13 kilometers south of Bakhmut, which was destroyed earlier this year after months of brutal combat and which remains one of the hottest areas of fighting on the eastern front. “As a result of a lightning operation, the Russian garrison of Andriivka was surrounded, cut off from the main forces, and destroyed,” the Third Separate Assault Brigade said in a statement. “The fighting continues; our units continue to consolidate in new positions,” it added. The Ukrainian military said its troops also had some success in...Latest news
