Ask Amy: Details emerge after soul mate’s death

Dear Amy: I was with my boyfriend for four years. We lived together the entire time.He was my soul mate and stepped in to be the dad in my kids’ lives (I have three children from my previous marriage).I thought everything was amazing and that he was my partner in life.He died two weeks ago. Because we weren’t married, I couldn’t be the person to make the arrangements. His mother’s family immediately started blocking me from any involvement in the funeral. He was always protective of his phone and kept it locked. He stated that this was because of a past experience he’d had with personal information that was spread online.Well, after his death I had to access his phone in hopes of locating a will, wishes or anything to support getting him put to rest.I didn’t find any of that, but I did find intimate conversations he’d had with multiple women that were very sexual in nature.I’m talking about pictures, Facebook Messenger, and phone calls spanning the ENTIRE ...EU Code Week 2023 kicks off to encourage young people to acquire coding and digital skills

SANTA CLARA – Here is how the 49ers (5-0) graded in Sunday night’s 42-10 home win over the Dallas Cowboys (3-2):PASS OFFENSE: ABrock Purdy (four touchdown passes) and George Kittle (three touchdown catches) set career highs, and their most picturesque connection came on a play called: “Toss 18 Flea Flick.” That football touched the hands of Purdy, Christian McCaffrey and Deebo Samuel, then went back to Purdy, who didn’t flinch at an incoming defender and launched a pass from midfield to Kittle for a 38-yard touchdown reception and a 14-0 lead. That play was installed midway through last season (before Purdy ascended to the QB throne), and although it was called amid the carnage of the NFC Championship Game for McCaffrey (after Purdy’s injury), it wasn’t fully executed until this game, after they practiced it Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.Kittle commended Purdy for how well prepared he is with the 100 passes and 50 runs they must sift through each week, adding: “Brock’s pocket aware...Sale closed in Dublin: $1.5 million for a three-bedroom home

When I watched today’s deal in a penny game, Unlucky Louie was East and held one of his usual piles of nothing. His expectation was about minus 650 points, and it got lower when North-South bid a slam.Luckily for Louie, South was Joe Overberry, who thinks it’s nobler to go down in pursuit of an overtrick than to make his contract. West led the king of hearts against six spades, and Joe ruffed in dummy, led a trump to his ace, ruffed another heart and led a second trump. When Louie discarded, Joe took the K-Q and started the clubs. West ruffed the second club and cashed his ace of hearts.SEVEN“We stop at six spades when we should have bid seven,” North moaned. “Then the man goes down trying to make seven.”Joe pitched 1530 points. At Trick Two he should play a low trump from both hands, guarding against a 4-1 break. If West wins and returns a trump, Joe wins, ruffs a second heart in dummy and draws trumps. He can run the clubs without interruption fo...Horoscopes Oct. 9, 2023: Tony Shalhoub, adhere to common sense

For the third time in nine years, Michigan has reached the halfway point of the regular season having given up the fewest points in the Football Bowl Subdivision. The Wolverines have allowed just four touchdowns and 40 points, an FBS-best average of 6.7 per game, and hadn’t surrendered more than seven until their 52-10 win over Minnesota on Saturday.Michigan also led the nation in scoring defense through six games in 2015 and ’16. The Wolverines have allowed 17.9 points per game since 2015, which was Jim Harbaugh’s first year as coach and also the first year Sportradar had complete data available. DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Red Wings’ playoff drought has lingered so long that they’ve tied a team record, seemingly stuck in a rebuilding mode that has allowed apathy to set in with at least some fans.Steve Yzerman is trying to spark a change. The Hockey Hall of Famer and Red Wings general manager finally felt that making major trades and spending significant money in free agency made sense for the franchise after seeing a couple of years of some progress.Detroit desperately hopes to snap its seven-year playoff drought, which equals an awful run in the 1970s, and becomes part of an NHL trend.Since the league’s current playoff format started a decade ago, at least five teams have been in the playoffs each year after missing out the previous year. The Vegas Golden Knights were among the recent examples and they ended up wining the Stanley Cup in their sixth season, a year after not making it to the postseason for the first time.Detroit doesn’t suddenly seem lik...Unbeaten No. 14 Louisville savors another comeback win while striving for a complete performance

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Louisville’s quick start is ironic considering it hasn’t always started quickly.Three second-half comebacks have helped the No. 14 Cardinals (6-0, 3-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) achieve their best start in 10 years, with Saturday night’s 33-20 victory over then-No. 10 Notre Dame being the latest rally. Granted, a 13-10 deficit was significantly easier to overcome compared to double-digit holes against Georgia Tech and North Carolina State; but it spoke volumes about their resilience. As Louisville savors a signature victory over one of college football’s most storied programs, work continues toward a complete effort.“Once you win a game like that, the bar goes from here up to here,” first-year coach Jeff Brohm said, raising the palm of his hand. “Every week in college football, if you don’t come ready to play you are not going to win. We’re going to have to get back to work over 24 hours.”Like other rallies, Louisville’s final 30 minutes against the Fighting Ir...Nobel economics prize goes to professor for advancing understanding of women’s labor market outcomes

STOCKHOLM (AP) — The Nobel economics prize was awarded Monday to Claudia Goldin, a professor at Harvard University, for advancing understanding of women’s labor market outcomes.Goldin is only the third woman to win the prize, which was announced by Hans Ellegren, secretary-general of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, in Stockholm. “Understanding women’s role in the labour market is important for society. Thanks to Claudia Goldin’s groundbreaking research, we now know much more about the underlying factors and which barriers may need to be addressed in the future,” said Jakob Svensson, chair of the Committee for the Prize in Economic Sciences. It follows the awards in medicine, physics, chemistry, literature and peace that were announced last week. The economics award was created in 1968 by Sweden’s central bank and is formally known as the Bank of Sweden Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel.
